Software Manager (Madrid, Spain)

Overview AXON Networks delivers a robust AI-driven, analytics-based orchestration platform and a wide portfolio of next-gen high-speed routers that leverage the newest Wi-Fi technologies. We are looking for a Manager of Software Engineering who can quickly integrate into our ongoing organization and make meaningful contributions from day one across the many ongoing projects. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with people management skills and thrives in a dynamic setting with a focus on building a strong development team in Spain.

AXON Networks is headquartered in Irvine, CA USA with Asia HQ in Singapore and also operating in Denmark, Spain and Vietnam.

Responsibilities Manage, mentor, and grow a strong team of software engineers. Conduct performance reviews and support career development.

Plan and oversee software development projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.

Provide architectural direction, conduct code reviews, and enforce best practices while promoting a culture of continuous learning.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software engineering efforts with business objectives and deliver scalable, robust solutions.

Drive continuous improvement of development processes and practices to enhance productivity and software quality.

Participate in recruitment and onboarding of new engineering talent to grow the Software Engineering team.

Contribute to long-term technology strategy and roadmap development.

Design and develop high-quality Java applications that meet business needs and technical requirements.

Requirements 7-10 years of proven experience in Java development, with 3+ years in a leadership role.

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

Proficiency in task tracking and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).

Proficiency in Git for version control, with an understanding of branching, merging, and collaborative workflows.

Strong expertise in object-oriented design principles and design patterns.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with troubleshooting and debugging skills.

Hands-on experience with the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Security).

Extensive experience with relational databases (SQL, Oracle, Postgres), including performance tuning and optimization.

Experience in developing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services.

Familiarity with troubleshooting deployed applications in production environments.

Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python) for automation tasks.

Comfortable working with Linux / Unix environments and shell commands.

Knowledge of messaging systems (e.g., Kafka) is a plus.

Experience with stream processing or reactive programming is a plus.

Fluency in English and Spanish.

Ability to work in a hybrid setting in Madrid.
