The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest genomic sequencing centers in Europe.

CNAG is a non-profit public consortium formed by the General State Administration through the Ministry of Science, Research and Universities (MICIU) and the Government of Catalonia (CG).

CNAG carries out genome sequencing and analysis projects in diverse areas such as human disease (cancer, rare diseases, immune-mediated diseases), microbial genomics, biodiversity, evolutionary studies, and the improvement of species of agricultural / livestock interest. Our organization contributes to strengthening the life sciences ecosystem at both national and international levels, participating in Catalan, Spanish, European and global initiatives aimed at breaking the barriers of current knowledge and building new solutions with international reach.

We participate in major international genomic initiatives such as the Human Cell Atlas (HCA), the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (iHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA), and the European Life Sciences Information Infrastructure (ELIXIR).

CNAG´s annual turnover is more than 12 million Euros.

The Spatial Genomics Team

The Spatial Genomics Team at CNAG is at the forefront of understanding how gene expression is spatially regulated at the tissue level by integrating the latest technological advances with histopathology to better understand health and disease.

The mission is to establish Spatial Transcriptomics and other Spatial Tissue Profiling techniques as standard tools for next-generation pathology, harnessing the prognostic value of tissue resections and biopsies. We successfully established protocols to quantify gene and protein expression in tissues (Bruker Spatial CosMx, 10X Xenium / Visium, BGI Stereo-seq) and have developed state-of-the-art analysis pipelines particularly designed for spatial data. Our international team joins computational, technical, clinical, histopathological and biological knowledge in order to promote creative thinking while establishing best practices in single-cell and spatial research. The group combines collaborative research, technique and assay development activities and follows research lines on the generation of human cell atlases and spatial immunology and immuno-oncology.

The Role

We have an opening for a Computational Biology Post-doctoral fellow in the Spatial Genomics Team to work on a translational funded project to characterise tissue heterogeneity in the bone marrow of various species. The successful candidate will develop and apply innovative methods to perform cell segmentation, quality control, integration and annotation of spatial transcriptomics data, as well as cell co-localisation, cell to cell communication and niche analyses.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative person who is excited to work in an environment that combines advanced technology with the latest algorithmic, statistical, and computational methods. The role requires the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to joint projects.

Whom would we like to hire?

• PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or similar.
• Demonstrated research excellence through peer-reviewed publications.
• Proficient in Python and / or R.
• Solid background in single cell and / or spatial transcriptomics analyses.
• Good problem-solving skills, time management and strategic thinking.
• Strong commitment to high-quality work and sound administrative abilities.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.

The Offer

Contract Duration : Initially 2 years with possibility of extension.

Estimated Gross Annual Salary : Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.

Start Date : January 2026
