LEGAL COUNSEL

Atradius Collections is one of the world’s leading commercial debt collection agencies and a world-class credit management organization. We are looking for an experienced new colleague to fill the position of an in-house lawyer (Legal Counsel) in our central Legal and Compliance Department. The person holding this position will provide expert legal advice (with a focus on GDPR, commercial law, and contract law) related to the company’s day-to-day operations. This role involves working closely with the business to ensure its success and profitability.

The position is within the Iberia & South America region and the North America region, which includes Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The Legal Counsel will need to work in an international environment, close to the business operations while still being involved in high-level development projects.

The Legal Counsel is expected to be based in Madrid or Lisbon and will report to the Legal & Compliance Senior Manager.

Responsibilities

Provide legal, regulatory, and compliance advice to Atradius Collections’ day-to-day activity in the Iberia & South America region and the North America region.

Draft, negotiate, and review a wide variety of contracts, focusing on service level agreements and supply agreements.

Provide guidance on corporate governance matters, including preparing minutes of Board of Directors and Shareholders’ meetings.

Contribute to data protection matters, ensuring adherence to data protection legislation.

Enhance compliance policies and procedures to improve internal controls.

Monitor industry developments and maintain knowledge of new and amended laws.

Support the Group Compliance Department in managing the risk of international sanctions.

Collaborate with business colleagues to achieve targeted business results while managing legal risks.

Maintain strong connections with other members of the Legal and Compliance Department.

Perform other legal tasks and projects assigned by the Legal & Compliance Senior Manager.

Job Requirements : Knowledge, Education and Experience

A university degree in Law with good academic credentials and post-qualification experience.

3-5 years of relevant experience as in-house counsel or as an attorney in a law firm.

Previous experience in an international or global organization is advantageous.

Strong knowledge of GDPR and experience with contracts and corporate housekeeping.

Fluent in English and Spanish; spoken and written Portuguese is advantageous.

Ability to work cross-border and prioritize under pressure.

Detail-oriented, organized, and a strong team player.

Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
