Overview

JOB SUMMARY

The Installation and Commissioning Engineer (ICE) role contributes to project results through coordinated management and execution of multiple tasks aligned with Installation and Commissioning (I&C) function objectives, priorities and methods. The role operates with a high level of autonomy and collaborates with peers and superiors to operationalize goals and priorities in line with the project strategy.

Day-to-day accountability is for the successful delivery of assigned tasks to achieve time, quality and cost targets within financial, contractual and health and safety parameters. Extensive travel within EMEA with some travel to other regions (APAC) for site commissioning work.

Projects are led by a Project Manager supported by a project team. The ICE may be assigned to specific projects within the team as one of the following roles : Process Commissioning Engineer (PCE), Commissioning Team Leader (CTL), Site Manager (SM). Assignments depend on the job holder’s skill set, project size and complexity, and whether the site operations start (IS / SM) or installation is completed (CTL / PCE / SM).

Responsibilities

The ICE complies with SPX Flow project execution processes, methods and tools and achieves operational effectiveness within the agreed time frame.

Demonstrates a culture of innovation, high performance, accountability and continuous improvement aligned with the PM’s strategic goals.

As Process Commissioning Engineer, contributes to :

Installation Qualification (IQ) and Operational Qualification support (OQ).

Documentation management for his / her areas (including updates).

Performance Qualification support (PQ).

Customer training and weekly commissioning reviews; weekly reports to the Commissioning Team Leader.

Responsible for commissioning activities related to powering MCC panels and control cabinets, instrumentation setup, and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, thermal and electrical failures.

Starts up plants, verifies contractual performances from physical and process perspectives, and enables the customer to start first production with a plant that is cleaned, sterile (if required) and qualified from a process standpoint.

Supports the software engineer during OQ and the customer during PQ, and trains operators.

Attends Commissioning Team Leader meetings and provides final commissioning reports including IQ, instrument records, and results.

Owns the commissioning process tasks (with potential specialist support) and is capable of handling tasks without external support where possible.

Processes included : installation takeover, Mechanical IQ, documentation checks, P&ID and 3D model compliance, item list compliance, electrical IQ support, energizing, electrical diagram compliance, instrumentation and regulation loop configuration, I / O tests with troubleshooting, utilities activation, water flushing, startup, performance checks, PID parameter adjustment, functional capacity checks, OQ, CIP, alarms and interlocks checks, operator training, and first production support.

As Commissioning Team Leader, coordinates / leads commissioning teams and maintains the project commissioning plan and integrated reports.

Site Manager responsibilities

Under the Site Manager, coordinates SPX team and contractors on site and manages project documentation, weekly reporting and on-site communications.

Ensures safe and efficient on-site execution, maintains up-to-date documentation / tools / PPE, and manages site timescales and budget.

Organizes and leads daily site meetings; maintains a visitors register and induces site visitors and team members.

Attends regular customer meetings; reports to Project Manager and Lead Engineer; may have delegated tasks from Site Manager.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

Graduate (advance toward Engineering Discipline, Food Technology, Dairy Technology).

Minimum 4 years of experience in Process Engineering or commissioning roles.

Willingness to travel regionally (AMER & EMEA) with global travel (80% travel).

English : speaking and writing proficiency.

Common Relationships and Skills

Common relationships : Project Manager, Process Engineer, I&C functional leader, peers in other disciplines, customers, external suppliers and partners.

Food industry experience in engineering (design, construction or commissioning) of food processes (wet, liquid or dry).

Project risk and issue management, progress monitoring and reporting, project health, safety and environmental focus, and project scope / change management.

Leadership, planning and scheduling; proficient with MS Office; ability to use MS Project; written and verbal communication in English.

Specific Knowledge & Abilities

Site Manager / Commissioning Team Leader : leadership, daily site meetings, customer engagement, resource planning and MS Office proficiency.

Process Commissioning Engineer : basic commissioning experience in food industry, instrumentation, valves, pumps, heat exchangers; electrical troubleshooting; awareness of food process risks; planning and scheduling; start-up actions and late-delivery management.
