We are looking for a senior leader within the EMEA Risk team who will assume responsibility as Chief Risk Officer for Zurich Santander based in Madrid (preferred), or in any of the countries where we operate (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay) and reporting directly to the EMEA Head of Risk.

You will assume responsibility as Chief Risk Officer for Zurich Santander Insurance America (ZS JV), which is a joint venture between Zurich Group (51%) and Santander bank (49%) that started in 2011 and it is composed by 5 BUs located in Latin America : ZS Argentina, ZS Brazil, ZS Chile, ZS Mexico and ZS Uruguay.

This is an excellent chance to join a successful joint venture which has been contributing strongly to EMEA results and consequently to Zurich Group. In addition, ZS is one of the most important bancassurance company in Latin America in Life and P&C.

In this role you will lead a team as the accountable Chief Risk Officer for ZS JV, with 2nd line responsibility for risk assessments, advisory and control of all material risks for the entity, and for the implementation of Group Risk Management frameworks.

You support ZS management in its task of identifying risks at an early stage, recognizing them, initiating management measures, or consciously taking risks. You enable the management to be properly informed about the risk profile with our risk reports and contribute to informed decision-making. In addition, you are responsible for risk-related regulatory reporting and support management in complying with regulatory and legal requirements.

You will also report to both shareholders through board committees which are composed by Zurich teams and Santander Insurance division.

What you will do

As Chief Risk Officer for Zurich Santander your main responsibilities will be :

  • Leading the team of risk and control professionals (~35 people) in delivering timely and effective risk management and controls for ZS BUs. It includes all ICIF Test team located in ZS BUs, given ZS does not have SLA with Krakow, but internal ftes
  • Providing the consistent and reliable information management needs for a 360° view of risks and risk-related decision-making. It includes overseeing ZS BUs : Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay.
  • As part of the EMEA Risk Management function, providing risk information to the EMEA and Group management related to ZS JV and BUs.
  • Contributing risk insights to Group Initiatives and Projects
  • Reviewing material regarding internal and external ZS initiatives, projects etc. from a risk perspective and advising management accordingly
  • Conducting risk assessments (TRP) and analyses to identify risks and problems early and ensure that measures are defined and monitored
  • Delivering Risk challenge and review to management teams in the context of high regulatory complexity
  • Supporting and monitoring of the implementation of the Group Risk Management Framework (e.g. Zurich Risk Policy, Strategic and Operational Risk Management, Internal Control System, Business Resilience)
  • Advising management on regulatory standards / regulations, including risk-related reporting to management, and quality assurance over local regulatory reports (SII, ORSA, etc)
  • Mentoring and developing other professionals within Risk Management, providing input to or leading global training and people development initiatives
  • Reporting to board members through Audit & Risk Board Committee and ALMIC providing transparency and advisory

What you bring

As a Chief Risk Officer for ZS JV (m / f), you ideally have the following skills and qualifications :

  • At least 15 years of professional experience in the insurance industry, preferably with strong experience in bancassurance
  • Strong experience in control functions (1-2-3 Lines of Defense, Compliance, Audit, Risk, or other internal control and governance function) and in core insurance activities (Claims, Underwriting, etc.)
  • Master’s degree (in law, economics, business administration, mathematics) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior leaders and has progressed with positions of increasing responsibility
  • Strong focus on execution and delivery, showing strategic ability combined with sound operational skills, and an ability to support change, displaying both persistence and resilience
  • Able to manage ambiguity, different requirement and challenging deadlines
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Good knowledge of the Insurance and Solvency 2, GDPR, AML, CPI regulations
  • High service orientation and the ability to think in a networked way
  • Fluent oral and written English and Spanish are a must. Portuguese is an asset
