The Role You Will Play
The Insider Threat & Cyber Investigations Specialist reports directly to the Insider Threat Prevention & Investigations Program Manager. You will be responsible for identifying and investigating potential threats against Airbnb and its workforce, from internal and external sources, and implementing strategies to mitigate these threats to protect Airbnb’s workforce, assets, and reputation.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Understanding of cybersecurity principles, with familiarity working with platforms such as Windows, Mac OS, and Google OS. Ability to analyze security-related data like event logs and authentication logs to identify threats.
Experience managing investigations from start to finish.
Skilled in conducting interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects.
Ability to engage with stakeholders across departments including InfoSec, HR, Legal, and Engineering.
Experience in case management, documenting investigations thoroughly and ensuring follow-through.
About the Team
The Airbnb Global Safety & Security (GSS) team aims to ensure safety and security for our community through proactive risk management. The team includes experts in security operations, intelligence, law enforcement collaboration, risk assessment, and more.
Typical Responsibilities
Investigate complex insider risk incidents and digital behaviors, ensuring a comprehensive investigative process.
Apply business and legal considerations during investigations, especially in complex third-party cases.
Develop investigative plans using open source intelligence and technical tools.
Lead incident response efforts as incident commander.
Conduct sensitive interviews both virtually and in person.
Document findings accurately using case management software.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for risk mitigation.
Conduct post-incident reviews to improve practices.
Maintain relationships with internal teams and external partners.
Develop policies and procedures aligned with data privacy and legal standards.
Provide analytics and case data to support risk detection and mitigation strategies.
Communicate complex risk issues clearly to cross-functional teams.
Required Skills and Experience
8+ years in insider threat investigations, law enforcement, counterintelligence, or equivalent private sector experience.
4+ years in cybersecurity, specifically related to insider risk management.
Experience interviewing insider risk actors and witnesses.
Knowledge of workplace investigation standards, employment law, and confidentiality practices.
Experience in digital and human domain investigations and cross-functional response coordination.
