PLANT BREEDER, EGGPLANT

Semillas Fitó is a Spanish multinational company founded in 1880 in Barcelona. With over 140 years of history, we have grown to become a leader in genetic improvement, production, and distribution of horticultural and field seeds, investing nearly 30% of turnover in R&D. We have over 800 employees, presence in more than 20 countries, and sales in over 90 countries. We are looking for a Plant Breeder with at least 5 years of demonstrated working experience in vegetable crops breeding to lead our global Eggplant Breeding Program .

Key Responsibilities

Lead, execute and optimize our eggplant breeding programs by using the appropriate breeding methodologies and breeding technology tools to achieve the company goals (provide customers with high performance eggplant varieties).

Propose, implement, and assess breeding strategies according to available resources and budget.

Participate and contribute to research project teams when relevant for the breeding goals or target markets.

Set up Eggplant trials in our breeding stations and with customers, working jointly with Fito’s development teams.

Work worldwide in close collaboration with the commercial teams to promote varieties and organize successful market introductions.

Identify promising results from different fields of research and integrate them into the breeding program.

Translate market requirements and future needs along with Marketing and Sales into breeding goals to generate successful new products.

Requirements

MSc or Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or relevant fields

At least five years of working experience in commercial plant breeding, preferably in Solanaceae crop.

Demonstrated experience in Vegetable Crops Breeding.

Strong background in plant breeding, genetics, field plot techniques, molecular biology, and molecular marker application to plant breeding.

Good communication skills and ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.

Spanish and English as a working language. (Written and verbal is required)
