Job Description
The Chief Steward is responsible for the efficient operation of the stewarding department, including the cleaning and maintenance of all kitchen areas, proper handling of kitchen equipment, utensils, glassware, chinaware, and cutlery, as well as ensuring compliance with hygiene and food safety standards. This role works closely with the culinary and food & beverage teams to maintain a clean, safe, and productive environment.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate all activities of the stewarding staff.
Ensure proper cleaning and sanitization of all kitchen areas, dishwashing stations, equipment, and utensils.
Control the inventory and correct use of cleaning supplies, detergents, and chemicals.
Ensure strict compliance with HACCP standards and the hotel’s hygiene and safety policies.
Coordinate the collection and proper disposal of waste and recycling materials.
Oversee proper storage of kitchen materials, equipment, and utensils.
Maintain industrial dishwashing equipment in good working condition, including dishwashers, sinks, and related machinery.
Collaborate with the kitchen, banquet, and food & beverage departments to support daily operations and events.
Train and motivate the stewarding team, fostering a culture of teamwork, efficiency, and cleanliness.
Prepare regular reports on maintenance needs, equipment rotation, and staff performance.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position within luxury hotels or resorts.
Solid knowledge of industrial cleaning, chemical handling, and operation of kitchen equipment.
Technical training in food hygiene (HACCP or equivalent certification).
Strong leadership, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure.
Effective communication skills in Spanish; English is a plus.
Candidate must be a citizen of the European Union or possess a valid work permit for Spain.
