Overview
Join our Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Team as a Global Environmental Specialist. You will report to the BU Environmental Program Lead and act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for environmental risk assessments and chemical safety, including usage and storage of oil, oil farms and piping line systems, including emergency preparedness and response, preventive measures and innovative alarm systems.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits across operations; support local units to comply; oversee implementation and maintenance of environmental policies and procedures, tailoring instructions to specific operational needs.
Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments and site evaluations to identify hazards and reduce environmental risk; define and help units implement effective risk control measures.
Plan and conduct internal and external environmental audits; collaborate with other functions to propose action plans for audit findings.
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes; promote and implement HSE initiatives to reduce the organization’s environmental footprint and drive behavioral change through programs and best practices.
Share feedback to enhance environmental practices and strategies; maintain relationships with communities, environmental groups, and internal / external stakeholders.
Investigate incidents; determine causes and implement preventive measures; respond to environmental incidents and spills and coordinate mitigation efforts as needed.
Define, develop and lead environmental improvement projects for waste, water and energy management; foster a culture of HSE learning and continuous improvement.
Provide training and guidance on environmental regulations and sustainability practices; identify training needs, prepare materials and conduct sessions.
Qualifications
Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Several years of experience in health, safety, and environmental roles in the industrial or energy sector.
Strategic thinking and planning skills to develop environmental policies and initiatives aligned with corporate objectives and regional needs.
In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, laws, and standards with the ability to interpret implications for organizational strategy.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to engage with local teams, regulatory bodies, and environmental organizations.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools for informing strategy and tracking performance against environmental goals.
