We are now looking for a GIS Specialist to strengthen our team, helping us design, implement, and enhance geospatial crop monitoring technologies , with a key focus on the ASAP (Anomaly hotSpots of Agricultural Production) system.

Contract Details

• Duration : Initial contract of 100 days (extension possible, up to 800 remaining days).
• Mode : Freelance and Remote work (within EU territory).
• Headquarter in ISPRA (Varese, Italy)
• Equipment : Laptop provided by the Commission.
• Onsite presence : May be requested with 7 days’ notice.

About the Project

Since 1993, the Food Security Unit (formerly MARS) has been at the forefront of developing operational systems based on agro-meteorological models and remote sensing data to assess crop conditions and forecast yields. Initially focused on Europe, the Unit expanded its activities globally, with a strong focus on sub-Saharan Africa.

Today, the Unit contributes to global initiatives such as GEOGLAM , the IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) , and the Global Report on Food Crises . It also manages the Knowledge Center on Food and Nutrition Security , supporting decision-makers with cutting-edge tools for food security analysis and early warning systems.
