Role Purpose You will provide effective claims handling in accordance with the Claims Department’s guidelines and procedures. As a Claims Specialist, you will investigate and evaluate Casualty and MedMal claims. You’ll be involved in all aspects of a claim file, including gathering data, conducting investigations, developing claims summaries and timelines, and assigning vendors. A key part of your role will be preparing documentation, maintaining appropriate databases and systems, and preparing claims reports while communicating updated claims information.
Key Accountabilities You assist with and / or directly handle all aspects of a claim file from start to finish, including investigation, determining liability, confirming coverage, assessing damages, and drafting claim evaluations with recommended actions.
You investigate claims, gather relevant data, and compile information and facts, including evaluating external provider reports, securing internal reviews, and developing case summaries and timelines.
You use litigation and claims management systems to maintain, organize, and retain relevant claims data and files.
You review claims for investigation status, liability assessment, damage documentation, reserve adequacy, expert witness evaluation, recent developments, and resolution plans, all within Everest’s Best Practices.
You manage relationships and provide support to internal and external customers, serving as a primary contact for individuals named or involved in claims and lawsuits.
You maintain collaborative working relationships with other departments and entities to ensure quick responses to internal and external customers.
You participate in problem-solving and resolution in line with company policies, guidelines, statutes, and regulatory requirements.
You identify trends and opportunities in claims handling and contribute to reporting and communication efforts.
You may assist in educating clients and brokers about risk issues identified through claims data to help mitigate future liabilities.
You perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
You conduct salvage, subrogation, or other recovery proceedings through close monitoring. You investigate fraud and ensure timely advice, relevant supporting documents, and responses to inquiries are provided to coinsurers / reinsurers for prompt settlement of their share.
Your Qualifications You bring relevant Casualty claims expertise (minimum 5–7 years). Experience in other lines of business is a plus.
You are fluent in both Spanish and English, written and spoken.
You have strong investigative and problem-resolution skills.
A bachelor’s degree in law is preferred.
You possess strong interpersonal skills and excel at working with diverse groups and delivering excellent customer service.
You organize your work effectively and methodically, and you thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
You use independent judgment and handle confidential information with care.
You develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
You understand the judicial system and legal procedures.
You stay current with developments and trends in your area of expertise.
You have advanced knowledge of legal research principles, methods, and resources.
You work well independently and as part of a team.
You gather and organize legal evidence and external vendor services efficiently.
