What You’ll Do & Who You Are

Within our User Trust Team, we are defining how behaviour analytics can help enable trust between buyer / seller and a best shopping experience. This role is based at our Barcelona Tech Hub, where we develop technology to power our marketplaces at scale. As part of a cross-functional product development team, you will contribute to Kleinanzeigen, Germany’s leading online classifieds platform with over 36 million monthly users and 50 million active listings. We are seeking a Backend Engineer to join one of our Core Marketplace Teams at Kleinanzeigen, focusing on User Profile products. You will work with Frontend, Backend and Data Engineers, Product Managers and UX experts to enable a great customer experience and collaborate with other platform core teams to ensure seamless integration.

This is a hybrid role, where you can work both from home or our offices in Barcelona.

What You’ll Do

Be part of a welcoming and multicultural team, working in an Agile environment

Collaborate closely with Backend, Frontend and Data Engineers, as well as Product Managers and UX designers

Develop and maintain high-quality backend systems and applications, scaling to thousands of concurrent requests

Write clean, efficient, and reusable code following best practices and coding standards

Participate in design decisions and code reviews

Own the entire development and release cycle from specification to production with your cross-functional team

Ensure the quality of your product as quality is the responsibility of the entire team

Work with the team to evolve our ways of working

Be an active part of our Engineering community to advance the discipline across the company

Stay up-to-date with industry trends and continue learning to grow yourself and your team

What You’ll Bring

At least 3 years of experience developing backend services with Java

Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem

Experience with relational databases (MySQL or equivalent), cloud-native development (AWS), version control (Git, GitHub), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), distributed message brokers (Kafka, Kinesis / Firehose), and monitoring / observability systems (Grafana or Datadog)

Familiarity with CI / CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions

Understanding of APIs, microservices architecture, and server-side processes

Real-life reference or open source projects (GitHub / Bitbucket / StackOverflow) is a plus

Fluent English, both written and spoken

Collaborative mindset and drive to face challenges and learn
