Overview
We are currently accepting applications for the above mentioned position. This is a unique opportunity for highly motivated students recently graduated from the University in Physics or related fields to gain research experience in one of DIPC’s high-profile research teams.
Role
The Cosmology Group at the Donostia International Physics Center is inviting applications for a PhD position. The project will investigate the connection between cosmology and the physics of galaxy formation. To this end, we will employ simulation-based models to describe the spatial distribution of galaxies and its links to dark matter, dark energy, and neutrinos in the universe. These models will then be used to analyse state-of-the-art observations of the large-scale structure of the cosmos, to place constraints on the fundamental components of the universe.
Responsibilities
Develop and apply simulation-based models for the spatial distribution of galaxies within the large-scale structure of the universe.
Analyse state-of-the-art observational data to extract cosmological constraints related to dark matter, dark energy, and neutrinos.
Collaborate with the Cosmology Group to interpret results and contribute to scientific publications.
Qualifications / Desired background & competences
Experience in cosmology, high-performance computing, and / or statistical analyses of large datasets.
Working conditions
Contract duration : 1 year (possibility to extend up to 4 years)
Estimated annual gross salary : Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales
Target start date : 2026 / 05 / 01
We provide a highly stimulating research environment, and unique professional career development opportunities.
We offer and promote a diverse and inclusive environment and welcomes applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
The center
DIPC is a research center whose mission is to perform and catalyze cutting-edge research in physics and related disciplines, as well as to convey scientific culture to society. Located in Donostia / San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain), DIPC was born from a strategic alliance of both public institutions and private companies. Since 2008 DIPC is a 'Basque Excellence Research Center' (BERC) recognized by the Basque Government\'s Department of Education. In 2019, DIPC was also recognized as a "Severo Ochoa" Excellence Center by the Spanish Research Agency.
About the team
The successful applicant will join the group of Prof. Raul Angulo, which focuses on simulations of the large-scale structure of the universe and the modelling of cosmological probes.
