Construction & Commissioning Specialist

Location : Spain

Summary

This position is responsible for executing commissioning activities that bring new infrastructure from construction to full operation. This role involves extensive travel (up to 100%) and requires excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude, with familiarity with industrial gas systems and performance. The candidate must be flexible to maintain project timelines and communicate effectively across departments. The Commissioning Specialist will interface with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, customers, first responders, and external entities involved in site startup.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise Construction Activities : Oversee client-executed installation of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications and progress toward Mechanical Completion.

Execute Commissioning Activities : Lead system commissioning through functional, validation, and performance testing to ensure safe and proper operation.

Ensure Documentation & Reporting : Record test results, deviations, and progress accurately; report findings to the Project Manager and stakeholders.

Coordinate with Project Team : Collaborate to align site activities, resolve issues, and adjust schedules as needed.

Ensure Safety & Quality Compliance : Adhere to safety protocols, industry standards, and quality procedures.

Identify & Resolve Technical Issues : Diagnose and address commissioning-related issues, coordinating solutions with engineers, contractors, and vendors.

Support Client Handover : Assist in resolving punch items and preparing systems for operation.

Contribute to Process Improvements : Provide feedback to improve workflows, checklists, and strategies.

Maintain Progress Toward Milestones : Track and proactively manage schedules to meet project deadlines.

Mentor and Support Team Members : Guide Service and Commissioning Specialists, sharing expertise.

Travel as needed : Perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of Plug Power products including refueling infrastructure, electrolyzers, power units, and reformers.

Act as SME : Serve as Subject Matter Expert for contractors, project managers, and customers on site.

Lead site activities in absence of project manager.

Proven skills in : construction, commissioning, and operation of industrial gas infrastructure, including electrical wiring, piping pressure testing per ASME, troubleshooting, inspection, and documentation.

Ability to read and interpret : construction drawings and P&ID diagrams.

Professional interaction : Effectively communicate with customers and vendors.

Operate independently : Achieve high-quality results with minimal supervision, adapt to changing requirements, and meet project commitments.

Safety focus : Educate and ensure safe operation of hydrogen equipment and infrastructure.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Associates degree or vocational training in engineering technology, skilled mechanic, electrician, or related field.

Alternatively, high school diploma with 3+ years relevant experience.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

High proficiency in mechanical systems installation, troubleshooting, and repair.

Experience with industrial gas systems preferred.

Ability to diagnose failures and identify root causes.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Professionalism and results-oriented work ethic.

Strong task follow-through.
