What are we looking for?
We are seeking a
Technical Director EPC – International Desalination Plants
with solid experience in large-scale, international EPC projects to lead the technical execution of desalination plants from contract award through to final handover.
This is a
strategic and technical leadership role
responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability, while managing the integration of engineering disciplines, equipment, and subcontractors.
The successful candidate will work closely with clients and corporate management, making key decisions to optimize resources and enhance project performance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Coordination
Lead and oversee multidisciplinary engineering (process, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) throughout design, construction, testing, and commissioning.
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and procurement documentation.
Coordinate the integration of technological packages and major equipment, optimizing technical interfaces across disciplines and contractors.
Project and Contract Management
Ensure strict compliance with project schedules, budgets, and technical specifications under international EPC contracts.
Analyze contractual requirements, identifying technical risks, opportunities, and deviations. Coordinate corrective actions with engineering, quality, legal, and procurement teams.
Prepare and manage
Change Orders , assessing technical, financial, and schedule impacts and ensuring proper documentation and approval.
Performance and Reporting
Report regularly to Project and Corporate Management on technical progress, quality indicators, schedule compliance, and engineering / procurement costs.
Monitor KPIs related to quality, schedule, and cost, implementing corrective measures when required.
Promote continuous improvement and knowledge transfer across internal and external teams.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure adherence to international codes and standards (ISO, AWWA, ASME, API, ASTM, etc.).
Collaborate with clients, consultants, regulatory bodies, and contractors throughout project execution.
Propose innovative solutions to optimize
CAPEX
and
OPEX , with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, or related field).
Minimum
10 years of experience
in the water infrastructure sector, including
at least 5 years
in senior technical management roles on EPC projects for desalination plants exceeding
100,000 m³ / day
capacity.
Proven experience leading international, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Strong knowledge of desalination technologies (reverse osmosis, pre- and post-treatment).
Demonstrated experience managing
Change Orders , including technical, financial, and schedule assessments.
Excellent communication and reporting skills at both project and corporate management levels.
Fluency in
English
(Spanish native or advanced preferred); additional languages are an asset.
Availability for international travel (suppliers, clients, partners).
Postgraduate studies in
Project Management ,
Water Engineering , or an
MBA
are desirable.
