Postdoctoral Fellow - Mathematics & Statistics
The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW Sydney invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to undertake research within a five‑year Laureate Fellow project funded by the Australian Research Council and UNSW. The role is based in Sydney, Australia.
About The Role
- Level A – $113K – $121K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed term – 2 years (possible 12‑month extension based on performance and funding)
- Full‑time (35 hours per week)
Specific Responsibilities
Develop theory that significantly advances the field of dynamical systems using techniques from functional analysis, operator theory, ergodic theory, differential geometry, data science, and / or machine learning.Implement algorithms that efficiently analyse dynamical systems arising from idealised models or data.Publish collaboratively in leading international mathematical and scientific journals.Provide comprehensive analysis and reports on the research project in a timely and effective manner.Coordinate small‑team research activities and contribute to setting future research directions of the project.Assist with the supervision and mentoring of PhD students.Present research results at conferences and other venues.Adhere to UNSW’s Code of Conduct, Values and health and safety policies.Qualifications and Experience
A PhD in Mathematics (or closely related discipline) or close to completion, preferably in dynamical systems and related areas.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Outstanding track record of research publications.High‑level analytical and problem‑solving skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.Capacity to deliver high‑quality project outcomes in a timely manner.Computer programming experience, preferably with Julia and / or Matlab.Understanding and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values.Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attend relevant training.Application Process
