Offer Description

The department of Economics and Business at UPF is looking for highly motivated candidates for a pre-doctoral fellow position to work in the area of applied economics/political economy. The position is sponsored by a grant from the European Research Council Ref.: EC-HEu-ERC-CoG-101125953–POLARIZE–“Political polarization: causes, consequences, and solutions”-IP Ruben DURANTE.

The position is part-time and will be based in Barcelona (Spain). The position ideally runs from October 2026 to July 2027 (though both start and end dates can be flexible).

The position is ideal for students with a long-term interest in applied economics, in general, and political economy, in particular, who are looking for research experience prior to starting a PhD. Indeed, pre-doctoral fellows have gone on to join doctoral programs at top European and U.S. schools in economics, political science, finance, and data science.

Skills/Qualifications

The main tasks to be performed include, but are not limited to:

• 
  
• Data collection and analysis
  
• Assistance with the design and implementation of field experiments
  
• Literature review
  

The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background, excellent research and analytical skills, and experience working with Stata, Python, and other programming languages. Experience working with Natural Language Processing and big data is a plus. Curiosity, energy, initiative, and attention to details are imperative.

Additional Information

Expected salary: gross annual salary of 35.817,20 euros for a full-time RA - 35 h. (Category and level: Group 2 Level p).

Eligibility Criteria

The selection will be made through the evaluation of the CVs and the motivation letter presented. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a short interview and may be asked for references and to perform a task to test their research and analytical thinking skills.
