Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Finance Manager to lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of financing for renewable energy projects across European markets. The role focuses on securing EU-level funding, negotiating long-term offtake agreements, assessing revenue models across jurisdictions, and preparing assets for successful sale or transfer. The ideal candidate combines strong financial modeling skills with deep knowledge of European energy markets and investor networks.
Key Responsibilities
1.EU Financing & Subsidy Structures
- Identify and secure EU-level financing instruments (e.g., grants, debt, guarantees, green funds) for renewable energy projects.
- Prepare and submit funding applications and manage compliance with EU program requirements.
- Build relationships with relevant EU institutions and national agencies.
2.Commercial Structuring & PPAs
Lead negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities, corporate buyers, and aggregators.Develop pricing strategies and risk assessments for long-term offtake agreements.Monitor evolving market trends and regulatory frameworks impacting PPAs.3.Revenue Models & Market Analysis
Analyze and compare renewable energy revenue models across European markets (merchant, CfDs, PPAs, balancing markets).Provide recommendations on optimal project monetization strategies.Maintain up-to-date insights on energy market dynamics, carbon pricing, and grid access.4.M&A / Project Sales
Structure and execute transactions with project buyers, investors, and utilities.Support due diligence processes, investor roadshows, and negotiations.Build and manage a network of potential buyers and financial institutions.5.Other Incentives for Projects
Find and secure other incentives structures provided by governmental bodies or AHJ at the project country’s national and / or local level.Research and identify all incentives available to projects to help direct development strategy.6.Financial Modeling & Advisory
Create and maintain detailed financial models for renewable projects.Assess project bankability and identify key value drivers and risks.Provide input into investment committee papers and board presentations.7.Deal Valuation
Develop the financial models and commodity forward curves necessary to :Value project site acquisition and / or divestiture opportunitiesEstimate costs to develop a project from inception or acquisition to NTP or CODStructure and value Purchased Power Agreements for utility, municipal, irrigation district, commercial or industrial clienteleEstimate IRR for project sale opportunities.Develop and maintain an inventory of models to perform the above valuations.Develop and maintain an inventory of commodity forward curves, including electricity and RECs for numerous regions and nodes, to perform the above valuations.Utilize probability analysis, random number generators, variance reduction analysis, and option analysis where helpful or necessary to improve decision framework.Develop and maintain an inventory of yield curves.Recommend and defend appropriate model discount rates.Develop and maintain a process for counterparty credit rating valuation and consideration.Develop and maintain an inventory of tax and renewable energy incentives at the federal, state, and local levels.8.Business Development Planning
Work with team to develop proposals that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion.Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.Present an image that mirrors that of the client.Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.Identify follow-on opportunities with existing clients.Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.9.Management and Research
Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM or other sales management system.Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.Present business development training and mentoring to business developers and other internal staff.Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company’s people and capabilities.Understand the company’s goals and purpose to constantly enhance the company’s performance.Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or CFA a plus.5–8+ years of experience in project finance, investment banking, or energy finance, ideally with renewables.Proven track record in securing EU funding for infrastructure / renewable projects.Hands-on experience negotiating and structuring PPAs in European markets.Strong knowledge of energy revenue models across multiple EU countries.Experience in M&A processes, project sales, or equity / debt placements .Excellent financial modeling and valuation skills.Fluency in English; additional European languages (Spanish, German, French, etc.) a strong advantage.Key Attributes
