EC2 is looking for an experienced Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer for one of our virtualization organizations. You will be building the lowest layer of the Amazon Web Services software stack, engineering new EC2 instance families and developing the EC2 Nitro Hypervisor for AWS, with opportunities to innovate and influence the roadmap. EC2 Accelerated Nitro powers the EC2 Nitro instance families, focusing on hypervisors, virtualization and accelerated computing, including hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) to support workloads such as machine learning, high performance computing, inference, or graphics processing. Key job responsibilities

  • Take end to end ownership of the software development life cycle : build new solutions across the virtualization software stack; develop virtualization components and automate infrastructure flows. This includes design, testing and deployment.
  • Drive operational excellence, improving the quality of the hypervisor and our instance platforms. Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of the team.
  • Work with other EC2 teams like hardware, software and firmware groups across the globe to drive innovative solutions.
  • This position involves on-call responsibility. We work as a team to root-cause issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault-tolerant.

    EC2 Accelerated Nitro has a two-fold mission : leave no customer workload on-premises by engineering new EC2 instance families with hardware acceleration devices, and build the most feature-rich virtualization technology in the cloud. The team serves customer needs for cloud computing infrastructure with a wide portfolio of accelerated EC2 instance types.

    Basic Qualifications

  • Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • Experience in C / C++
  • 3+ years of experience using the typical Linux command line toolbox
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience working on the kernel or virtualization space
  • Proficient in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM
  • Understanding of operating systems internals
