The HSE Governance Lead provides strategic and technical leadership for the organization's HSE Governance program. The role focuses on implementing standard work that reduces risk, ensures compliance and embeds a culture where HSE is part of everyday operations. By aligning strategy with execution, the Governance Lead will help drive both cultural ownership and operational excellence. This is a senior leadership role that demands deep technical expertise in HSE and proven competence in managing high-risk operations such as electrical safety, lifting, construction, and work at height. The successful candidate will combine strategic vision with practical execution, using data to inform decisions, shaping programs that reduce risk, and translating standards into measurable business results.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include :

Lead HSE Governance program by serving as the technical domain expert for HSE, with deep understanding of technical requirements, including high-risk operations.

Develop and implement consistent HSE governance framework to meet internal requirements, regulatory alignment and external obligations (e.g., ISO 45001 and 14001) ensuring consistent application, learning, and cross-functional coordination.

Collaborate on program design (including high-risk operations) with cross-functional teams developing and delivering measurable outcomes.

Lead closed-loop audit process, from preparation through action closure and validation and partner cross-functionally to identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and monitor effectiveness.

Lead data trend analysis to identify systemic issues, develop targeted action plans, and influence decision-making with data-driven insights.

Drive change in a systemic way leveraging e.g. Change management certification or experience (e.g., Prosci, Kotter).

Drive accountability for execution of HSE programs, compliance, and continuous improvement. Leveraging expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis (5 Whys, RCA).

Familiarity with digital HSE platforms (e.g., Enablon, Intelex, SAP EHS).

Build organizational capability by coaching and mentoring site HSE professionals, fostering a culture of ownership and engagement.

Manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on delivery and impact.

Champion the consistent application of the Sandoz Business System (or equivalent), integrating Lean practices into H&S programs.

Qualifications

What you need to bring to the role :

Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or technical equivalent).

Certified HSE professional (e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or equivalent).

8+ years of senior HSE leadership, spanning both operational and strategic dimensions across manufacturing or complex operations, with proven success in HSE program development, compliance, risk reduction, and cultural transformation.

Demonstrated ISO experience, preferably in 14,001 or 45001.

Skilled in data-driven decision-making and performance management.

Demonstrated competency in Integrated Work Systems and / or Lean practices.

Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communications skills. Additional language skills desirable

Collaborative leader who thrives in a matrix environment and builds cross-functional alignment.

Results-driven and execution-focused, able to balance strategic vision with practical delivery.

Confident communicator, capable of engaging senior leaders, HSE professionals, and operational teams alike.

Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
