Mission
The Engineer in Photonic Foundry (GaAs Technology) will play a vital role in the development and optimization of integrated photonic devices based on Gallium Arsenide (GaAs). Working closely with cross-functional teams, the engineer will contribute to the simulation, layout, fabrication, and characterization of high-performance optoelectronic components. This entry-level role is designed for technically strong, detail-oriented individuals eager to grow within a fast-paced environment where innovation and precision converge in advanced photonics.
Responsibilities
Photonic Design and Simulation
- Participate in the design, layout, and simulation of GaAs-based photonic integrated circuits.
- Work with industry-standard tools such as Lumerical (FDTD, MODE), COMSOL Multiphysics, and IPKISS or Cadence for photonic modeling and circuit development.
- Apply Process Design Kits (PDKs) and perform Design Rule Checking (DRC) during layout validation.
Process Development and Fabrication Support
Support the development and fine-tuning of GaAs device fabrication workflows.Collaborate with process engineers to identify and resolve performance and yield issues.Ensure compliance with cleanroom protocols, safety regulations, and process documentation standards.Characterization and Testing
Conduct electrical and optical measurements of photonic devices, including lasers, modulators, and detectors.Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, probe stations, and power meters.Perform data acquisition and analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools.Documentation and Technical Communication
Maintain accurate records of design iterations, experimental data, and fabrication steps.Contribute to technical documentation and project reports.Participate in internal technical reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a closely related field.At least 6 months of academic, research, or industrial experience in integrated photonics or III-V semiconductor technologies.Solid foundation in semiconductor device physics and optoelectronic component behavior.Hands-on experience with photonic design and simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, KLayout, IPKISS, Cadence).Basic knowledge of cleanroom microfabrication techniques (e.g., photolithography, deposition, etching, metallization).Familiarity with optical / electrical test setups.Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.Fluency in technical English, both written and spoken.Preferred Experience
Previous internship, thesis, or laboratory experience in GaAs-based device design or fabrication.Experience working in a cleanroom environment under ISO or similar quality systems.Knowledge of wafer bonding or advanced III-V integration processes.Familiarity with multidisciplinary collaboration involving design, process, and test teams.#J-18808-Ljbffr
