Backend Engineer

Descripción del trabajoStartup growth mindset — experience working at growing startups and tech companies, learning from their challenges. Product-oriented — empathy with users (e.g., restaurants), prioritizing impactful work, and clear cross-team communication. Backend focus — strong skills in server-side development (TypeScript / Node.js, Python, Go, etc.) and database modeling. Infrastructure expertise — experience managing services in cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure), Docker, CI / CD, monitoring, and logging. Integration know-how — comfortable with REST APIs, webhooks, and async patterns (message queues, retries). Ownership mentality — proactive, resourceful, and comfortable leading technical decisions. Experience — 5+ years building and operating backend systems at scale. Languages — fluency in Spanish and comfortable with English (projects and incidents are written in English, and we work with some international clients). Experience working with POS systems, in the restaurant / HORECA sector, or with accounting software. Experience implementing performant database queries. Familiarity with domain-driven design or microservices. Background in incident response, SRE practices, or service-level objectives. Ownership from day one — lead this mission-critical area as we expand. Fast-growing impact — integrations are core to scaling Haddock into new markets. Cross-functional influence — collaborate with product, customer success, and engineering teams to shape flow and experience. Career growth — influence team practices, mentorship opportunities, and future technical strategy. Great package — €45–50k gross / year, hybrid remote, Urban Sports Club, snacks, Payflow, central office near La Pedrera. Intro call (~30 min) with a co-founder. Technical interviews (~2 hr) — deep dive into integration and infrastructure design + live backend / infrastructure task.

We’re Haddock — building the financial OS for restaurants across Europe. We're looking for a backend engineer who wants to own core functionalities, roll out new integrations, shape our infrastructure, and push the boundaries of reliability and scalability.
This isn’t just another backend role — it’s your chance to lead a mission-critical area of our platform from day one.
What you’ll own
You’ll be the technical lead of many backend-oriented initiatives, from our integrations to our core product that powers restaurant owners — architecting, scaling, and operating the backend systems that support Haddock’s growth. Your work will directly impact how restaurants connect their systems and manage their business. You’ll :
- Design and implement solutions, including data structures and microservices, to new integrations with external providers and services.
- Extend and maintain connectors with an eye toward robustness and reuse.
- Drive infrastructure improvements for scalability, observability, and security.
- Collaborate with the team on architecture and deployment.
- Set standards for integration quality, reliability, and performance.
