GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Head of WTGs is responsible for defining the WTG requirements and overseeing projects in their early stages, identifying best practices across projects, and capturing them at the corporate level.
This role involves managing WTG packages in project development, collaborating with partners, and developing in-house projects or assessing investment opportunities. Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Head of WTG will lead technical teams, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive continuous improvement in projects and corporate activities.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Technical analysis and definition of WTG work packages for bids, acquisitions, and due diligence.
- Leading and supporting the project team, ensuring adequate resources, skills, and capacity, including sourcing external contractors.
- Estimating headcounts, levels, and developing construction planning during early project stages.
- Collaborating with procurement to build relationships with key suppliers.
- Preparing specifications, technical documentation, and evaluating suppliers to ensure proper application, bidding, construction, and operation.
- Preparing RFPs, assessing offers, selecting wind turbines, and monitoring contractors for engineering and EPC / EPCI contracts.
- Ensuring activities comply with standards, legislation, ethics, and industry best practices.
- Providing technical support, fostering innovation, and liaising across departments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contributing to CAPEX modeling, bid preparations, progress reports, and technical presentations.
- Sharing lessons learned and promoting tools for standardization and industrialization of WTG.
- Assessing and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
- Developing synergies between offshore wind projects within the JV.
- Managing objectives, resources, and budgets for the WTG function.
- Representing the JV publicly and privately, advocating for its interests and exploring new business opportunities.
- Motivating and engaging employees to foster a positive work environment.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation through collaboration with legal advisors.
- Fostering collaboration with JV corporate areas to support interrelated activities.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Master's degree in Engineering or Science from an internationally recognized institution, relevant to Offshore Wind.
LANGUAGES
Fluent in English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
At least 10 years in engineering within the power / energy sector, with 5 years specifically in offshore wind, including project development and construction, and experience with large WTG machines.KNOWLEDGE
In-depth knowledge of offshore WTG, installation, and related activities.Understanding of wind farm production calculations, acquisition, and optimization.Familiarity with WTG standards and certification processes, and regulatory regimes.Experience in design, installation, and commissioning of WTG.Desirable : electrical and SCADA aspects of wind turbine technology.Strong commitment to Health and Safety, working with HSE professionals across jurisdictions.SKILLS
Analytical skills and commercial awareness.Proactive in project optimization and contract management, with early risk and opportunity identification.Organized, accountable, enthusiastic, flexible, and solution-oriented.Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.Ability to work within budgets and deadlines, delivering high-quality results.Leadership skills, including staff mentoring and development, with 0-3 reporting lines depending on workload.OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Preferred location in Madrid, Spain, with up to 50% travel flexibility.
