Overview

Head of Engineering to join a TOP company in Barcelona

Responsibilities

  • Define technical vision and strategy for scalable backend systems architecture
  • Lead microservices design handling millions of daily requests
  • Oversee REST API development using Kotlin / Java and Spring framework
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Champion engineering best practices and automated testing
  • Build and lead a high-performing backend engineering team
  • Recruit top-tier engineering talent and establish hiring practices
  • Provide mentorship and career development guidance
  • Foster innovation culture and cross-team collaboration
  • Collaborate with product and data teams on technical solutions
  • Drive engineering roadmap planning and resource allocation
  • Establish engineering KPIs and service level objectives
  • Lead incident response and champion DevOps practices

Experience & requirements

  • 8+ years of backend development with system architecture expertise
  • 3+ years of engineering management leading backend teams
  • Expert-level Kotlin / Java proficiency with deep JVM ecosystem knowledge
  • Strong database expertise with PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and distributed systems
  • Advanced microservices knowledge and distributed systems experience
  • Experience with message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS) and event-driven architectures
  • System design for high-throughput, low-latency applications
  • Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • AWS services (S3, SQS, Lambda, ApiGateway, ECS, EKS)
  • CI / CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
  • Monitoring, logging, and observability practices
