JOB DESCRIPTION
The Badalona Neuromuscular Research Group (GRENBA) is a multidisciplinary team made up of specialised basic and traslational researchers in the laboratory at IGTP and clinical staff from the Neurology and Paediatric services at Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital.
Our main goal is to find solutions for patients with neuromuscular diseases and to achieve this our team draws on its extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients and has recently built up a strong patient base.
In the laboratory we have extensive experience in genetic epigenetic transcriptomic and proteomic techniques to study the pathogenicity of the most prevalent neuromuscular diseases such as myotonic dystrophy type I Duchenne muscular dystrophy and glycogenosis V at the molecular level. Our team also has experience in generating patientderived cellular models and in designing and testing new treatments in vitro in vivo and in patients. In addition we work on numerous collaborative projects with national and international researchers also involved in the study of these neuromuscular pathologies.
The line of research in which the candidate would work focuses on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) the most prevalent muscular dystrophy in childhood which is a very severe genetic muscle disorder marked by progressive muscle degeneration in which chronic inflammation fibrosis and fat deposition replace functional muscle tissue over time. Building on previous studies in our group we are exploring a new emerging therapeutic target to 1) reduce fibrosis intramuscular fat accumulation and inflammation in DMD and 2) decipher the molecular mechanisms involved.
