Head of Design & Construction - Permanent - Data Centres - Madrid

QCS staffing are partnered with one of the world’s top AI infrastructure companies. As an organisation, our client are leading a new era in cloud computing to serve the global AI economy. They create the tools and resources for their customers requirement to solve real-world challenges and transform industries, without massive infrastructure costs or the need to build large in-house AI / ML teams.

To support our client’s continued growth, they are currently looking to hire a Head of Design & Construction in Madrid.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, planning, and execution of data center infrastructure projects, from site evaluation through commissioning.
Develop and maintain robust standards for data center electrical, mechanical, and cooling system designs.
Oversee external design consultants, engineers, and contractors to ensure compliance with technical requirements, quality standards, timelines, and budgets.
Provide technical guidance and hands-on support in design reviews for power distribution, UPS, backup generators, HVAC, and liquid / air cooling systems.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including operations, IT, procurement, and sustainability teams to align infrastructure designs with business objectives.
Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, environmental standards, and global best practices.
Manage CAPEX forecasting and budgeting for construction projects.
Monitor construction progress, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvements in design and execution.

Requirements :

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Extensive experience in data center design and construction, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.

Hands-on experience with mission-critical systems, including power distribution, mechanical systems, and advanced cooling technologies.

Strong understanding of Tier I-IV data center classifications and related design principles.

Proven track record of managing complex, large-scale data center builds.

Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
