Offer Description
We are seeking to recruit a PhD researcher for the WINE group of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) research centre of the UOC.
The objectives of the project are :
- Understand the environmental and social impact of mobile communication (5G / 6G) technologies.
- Scrutinize the potential of circular economy, trying to better understand the generation and management of infrastructural waste.
- Explore different frameworks (such as conviviality / appropriate technologies), evaluating whether they have the potential to reduce infrastructure metabolism.
- Analyse ways of enabling dialogue among citizens, local stakeholders, and experts from different disciplines (political ecology, science and technology studies, and mobile network development technologists), articulating their multiple, partial, and situated knowledges to better orient mobile network design and devise specific technological and non-technological interventions to align mobile network infrastructure rollout to societal needs.
Responsibilities :
Leadership of the research line in satellite networks for high-precision positioning.Publication of articles and participation in forums and conferences.Coordination and management of technology transfer associated with the research line.A temporary employment contract will be made for 7 months (until 31 August 2025) on a full-time basis, with an expected incorporation in February.
The reference headquarters will be located at 22@, Rambla del Poblenou, 156, in Barcelona. However, at the UOC, we work with an open work model that combines teleworking with face-to-face work, depending on organisational needs and the nature of the tasks.
What kind of profile are we looking for?
University degree.Doctorate in computer or telecommunications area.5 years' experience performing tasks similar to those offered.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Catalan and Spanish.High communication skills, oral and written, in English at a minimum level of C1.Knowledge of RF-based positioning systems (AoA, ToF) and differential positioning, satellite communication networks (NTN), as well as multi-function RF systems : navigation-communication-survey.Aptitude for practical and applied work.We also value…
