Overview
The Design Engineer applies engineering skills to solve complex problems, using knowledge of Ecolab's customers and markets. He or she schedules and helps to coordinate innovative, complex projects to meet cost and time objectives, complying with design criteria and standards.
Responsibilities
- Support development of Total Water Management (TWM) opportunities : partner with Senior Design Engineer to provide project engineering support by developing mass balance, process flow sheets, preparing proposals & estimates (CAPEX / OPEX), and providing technical / commercial support at client meetings.
- Build long-term relationships with internal and external customers by understanding their key business drivers. Maintain a high level of emotional intelligence in interactions with stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education : Chemical / Environmental / Mechanical Engineering DegreeMinimum 5 years experience with the design and supporting the sale of water and / or wastewater equipment and systems (e.g., clarification, filtration, membrane separation, RO / UF, DAF, solids separation, metals removal and biological processes) to industrial clients.Experienced Design Engineer in Biological Wastewater Treatment Systems (WWT)Minimum 2 years of proven experience in project executionFamiliarity with water treatment plant commissioning and start-upFluent English (written and verbal)Strong communication and teamwork skillsCommercial mindset and financial acumenPragmatic, synthesis-oriented approachAbility to manage conflict and work under pressureProblem-solving skillsWillingness to travel up to 50% to perform discovery, develop cost bases for each project, and present proposed solutionsHigh computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office; AutoCAD preferred; ability to learn business systems)Principal Accountabilities
Functionally report to the TWM Engineering Manager within the Commercial Engineering organization.Based in Spain or France with regular contact to the direct supervisor.Competent in a wide range of water treatment process technologies and capable of designing water treatment systems (mass balance, flow sheet, water mapping, equipment selection and costing, documentation for commercial discussions).Familiar with engineering drawings (P&ID, General Arrangement, Isometric sketches, data sheets, etc.).Analyze water and wastewater systems from mechanical, operational and chemical perspectives and propose solutions that meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.Work with clients and Nalco colleagues to determine project needs and develop specifications based on wastewater and pretreatment operations and business model considerations.Supervise on-site survey, conception and basic design, ensuring a favorable technical and economical balance between OPEX and CAPEX.Use technical expertise and financial acumen to support project qualification and allocate time / resources effectively to projects with the highest probability of success.Ensure project budgets are respected and collaborate with peers / managers on any issues during execution, improving construction methods when needed.Communicate with Nalco colleagues and external stakeholders (customers, contractors) at multiple levels.Experience with plant operation & maintenance is beneficial.Maintain customer relationships and coordinate to address technical / business issues and renewals within sold O&M accounts.Assist on existing O&M contracts for troubleshooting and improvements identification.Be aware of commonly used international standards and norms for equipment construction and certification; consider safety and environmental regulations.Our Commitment to a Culture of Inclusion & Belonging
