ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Design Manager (M&E) to oversee and manage all aspects of mechanical and electrical design for data center projects. This role ensures the design and implementation of robust, reliable, and efficient M&E systems that meet industry standards and project requirements. The M&E Design Manager will collaborate with project stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and clients, to deliver high-quality integrated solutions for data center facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design Oversight : Lead and manage the M&E design process for data center projects, covering power distribution, backup power systems (UPS and generators), HVAC, cooling systems, fire protection, and other mechanical and electrical components.
  • Project Coordination : Work closely with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate M&E designs into overall project plans.
  • Technical Leadership : Provide technical expertise in M&E systems, ensuring designs align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client needs.
  • Design Reviews : Conduct and oversee design reviews, ensuring M&E designs are accurate, feasible, and aligned with project objectives.
  • Compliance and Standards : Ensure all M&E designs comply with relevant codes and standards, such as NEC, IEC, ASHRAE, and local regulations.
  • Quality Assurance : Implement quality control processes to verify the accuracy and reliability of M&E designs and systems.
  • Problem Solving : Identify and resolve technical challenges in M&E design and implementation, minimizing project risks.
  • Vendor Coordination : Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to specify and select M&E equipment, ensuring compatibility with design requirements.
  • Documentation : Prepare and review design documentation, including technical specifications, drawings, and reports, ensuring thorough and accurate records.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in M&E design, with a strong focus on data centers or similar critical infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in both electrical and mechanical design, including power distribution, backup power, cooling systems, and fire protection.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant M&E codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ASHRAE, and local regulations.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating complex M&E projects with strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual in English and Japanese, third language a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of addressing and resolving technical challenges.
