Our client is an independent power producer (IPP) committed to designing, building, and operating renewable energy projects that deliver 100% green electricity. With a focus on solar, wind, and hybrid solutions incorporating storage technologies, the company aims to drive positive social and environmental impact across communities in Europe, particularly in Italy and Spain.

Functions

Our client manages a significant portfolio of operational assets and a 2 GW development pipeline. As part of a prominent European Infrastructure’s Clean Energy Fund, this company is a key player in sustainable energy. They now seek a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead operations and support their growth.

The Position

The COO will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. This hybrid role oversees the end-to-end operations of renewable energy projects across Europe, focusing on scaling construction, optimizing asset performance, and integrating advanced technologies. The COO will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring operational excellence aligned with sustainability and safety standards. Frequent travel across Germany, Denmark, Italy, Spain, and Sweden will be required to manage teams, assets, and stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Strategy : Develop and implement plans to support growth in wind, solar, and storage projects in Northern Europe.
  • Project Execution : Oversee construction and commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Asset Optimization : Manage operational assets to enhance efficiency, reliability, and profitability.
  • Technology Integration : Promote adoption of innovative solutions like smart grids and battery storage.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) : Enforce safety standards and foster a culture of compliance and risk management.
  • Team Leadership : Build and mentor teams of project managers, engineers, and asset managers across multiple countries.
  • Stakeholder Coordination : Work with regulators, suppliers, and communities to ensure project success and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Over 12 years of leadership experience in renewable energy, with expertise in wind, solar, and storage.
  • Proven success managing large-scale projects across multiple countries.
  • Strong knowledge of construction, asset operations, and HSE regulations.
  • Experience with emerging technologies like energy storage and digital tools.
  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience managing diverse, cross-border teams.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across Europe.
  • Passion for renewable energy and operational excellence.
