Introduction

The Sr. Accountant will be based in Madrid with exposure to the corporate headquarters accounting organization in the United States as well as to the EMEA regional teams. He / she will be part of a high-performing team and will be expected to lead, take ownership of his / her areas of responsibility, and ensure accurate and timely completion of company reporting requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Manage group and statutory activities for Spain, France, and Portugal.
  • Prepare 3-month cash forecasts.
  • Reconcile Accounts Payable, prepare and book monthly accruals (general expenses, marketing), address out-of-cycle items with the shared AP team based in London, review invoices on hold, manage GRNI accounts, and maintain prepayment and deposit accounts.
  • Prepare monthly payroll runs with HR and local payroll providers, ensure timely social obligations, book payroll entries, reconcile payroll accounts, and assist with annual reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with tax obligations (Intrastat, VAT, SII, CIT, etc.), liaise with tax advisors and authorities, and act as a subject matter expert on tax topics.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances with other group entities.
  • Maintain financial records supporting local statutory requirements (ES, PT), ensure Local GAAP Ledgers are current, and reconcile US and Local GAAP.
  • Assist with group and regional audits and tax computations, liaise with auditors, and respond to queries.
  • Support tax inspections and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Review current accounting and reporting processes for improvements and automation, considering changes in business activities and models.
  • Maintain internal controls according to Sarbanes Oxley standards.
  • Manage month / quarter / year-end closing activities, including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and activity narratives.

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, ACCA or similar qualification preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting or similar role.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems.
  • Attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire for career growth.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley is desirable.
  • French or Spanish language skills are preferred.
