Descripción del trabajo

Eurecat is the main Research & Technology Organisation in Catalonia and the second largest private research organization in southern Europe. It brings together the experience of more than 700 professionals and provides services to more than 2,000 companies. Applied R&D, technological services, highly specialized training, technological consultancy or valorisation and exploitation of industrial property are some of the services that Eurecat offers for both large and small and medium-sized enterprises in all sectors. The technology centre participates in more than 200 large national and international consortium projects of high strategic R&I and has 181 patents and 10 spin-offs. The added value provided by Eurecat accelerates innovation, reduces spending on scientific and technological infrastructures, reduces risks and provides specialized knowledge tailored to each company.

New Manufacturing Processes Unit carries out innovation and development projects in the field of new technologies for advanced manufacturing processes with a view to overcoming the challenges faced in industry today

Eurecat has developed a plasma generation technology using microwave generators. Unlike other technologies such as induction plasma, electric arc, thermal plasma, or capacitive discharge, it stands out for being highly precise and much more energy-efficient. It is also notable for its great flexibility and its application in multiple fields.

Eurecat New Manufacturing Processes Unit is offering post doctoral researcher position to develop the following applications

  • Treatment / recovery / reconditioning of particles, with the goal of obtaining spherical or semi-spherical particles suitable for 3D printing or surface deposition processes.
  • Gas decomposition / green chemistry; the elimination of harmful and dangerous gases (decomposition of CFCs, hydrogen sulfide, etc.). Additionally, alternatives to the generation of certain compounds or materials are proposed by combining others (hydrogen generation, ammonia generation, etc.).
  • Decarbonization or defossilization; Using carbon dioxide as a raw material for industrial use presents interesting challenges and solutions. Even the simplest application (generation of heat with air, hydrogen, or other gases) is achievable and can benefit many energy-intensive industries.

Functions and responsibilities :

  • Simulation of plasma generation via microwaves to develop new plasma generation equipment.
  • Instrumentation of laboratory plasma generation systems to capture data and verify simulations.
  • Optimization of parameters used in the laboratory (input gas flow, type of gas used, microwave power, flame geometry, gas or powder production at the output, among others).
  • Design and development of new laboratory equipment.
  • Requirements

    Eligibility criteria :

  • Engineering, Physics, or related studies, PhD degree.
  • Knowledge and Experience :

  • Experience in plasma system simulation, simulation in microwave and antenna systems, simulation in thermal systems or simulation in fluids.
  • Knowledge of Comsol Multiphysics will be valued
  • Languages :

  • High level of English (written and spoken)
  • A good level of Spanish or Catalan is an asset.
  • Department : Advanced Manufacturing Systems #J-18808-Ljbffr
