The role :

Openchip is building new RISC-V chips with security at heart, enabling safer and more privacy-respectful execution of data processing workloads like AI models.

Key responsibilities :

  • Understand the technical landscape of their project and make decisions about it.
  • Make independent technical contributions, especially for the most foundational or challenging parts of the project.
  • Develop and maintain security features for hardware architectures (RISC-V and others).
  • Implement secure boot, confidential computing, cryptography, and other platform security features.
  • Define and modify interfaces to expose security features to user applications, leveraging standards when possible.
  • Collaborate with firmware, OS, middleware, and hardware teams to integrate security features and influence hardware / software co-design.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Review design documents and code for correctness, quality, and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities for process and code improvements.
  • Engage with directors and stakeholders to address risks and gather feedback.
  • Coordinate with program managers for task tracking and process enhancements.
  • Communicate technical topics clearly to less technical audiences.

Required qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Over 10 years of experience in the relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture.
  • Experience with at least three of the following areas :
  • Confidential computing technologies (e.g., RISC-V CoVE, Intel SGX, AMD SEV).
  • Platform security features (kernel / firmware hardening, CHERI, CFI, virtualization security).
  • Cryptography in networks (certificates, TLS / SSL, PKI, remote attestation).
  • Boot integrity technologies (UEFI Secure Boot, TPM).
  • Cryptography libraries (OpenSSL, wolfSSL, mbedTLS, libsodium).
  • Good understanding of boot processes and Linux kernel internals.
  • Proficiency in low-level languages (C, Rust).
  • Experience with source control (git), CI, and task management tools (Jira).
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • Assembly language experience.
  • Kernel or device driver development experience.
  • Hypervisor technology experience (KVM, Xen, QEMU).
  • System boot technology experience (UEFI, ACPI, U-Boot).
  • Open source software contribution experience, especially in security organizations.
  • Knowledge of firmware lifecycle management.
  • JTAG debugging skills.
  • Experience with hardware cryptography IPs.
