The Institute

The Cent re for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

A scientist with expertise in mechanistic interpretability and XAI for the training and analysis of protein language models. The candidate should implement and characterize the performance of mechanistic interpretability techniques, such as, but not limited to, sparse autoencoders (SAEs) to the specific case of protein language models.

About the l ab

The AI4PD is a dry / web laboratory that focuses on the training of large models for protein design, with the goal of generating proteins with controllable properties. These models perform better at generating functional enzymes than physics-based models, at the expense of being black boxes whose decision-making process is opaque to the researchers.

Professional experience

Must Have

Proven experience in mechanistic interpretability, in the form of blog posts or published articles

Large experience training machine learning models

Desirable but not required / Nice to have

Desire to learn about proteins or physics

Education and training

Bachelor in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science

Languages

You are fluent in English

Technical skills

Python, High performance computing, slurm

Competences

The candidate should :

Be capable of working very independently

Be able to communicate fluently in English both in written and oral form

have curiosity to learn about molecular representations

independently interact with their peers to engage in scientific discussion

The Offer – Working Conditions

Contract d uration : Technical and scientific activities contract with an estimated duration of 1 year.

Estimated annual gross salary : Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales
