The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) Iberia is responsible for risk management in Spain and Portugal, including DB SAEU and other legal entities. The CRO operates independently with direct access to the Board of Directors and oversees major risks such as credit, operational, market, and liquidity risks.

Responsibilities

  • Position-specific responsibilities and accountabilities : Manage risk holistically in the Iberia region, determining, quantifying, and reporting all major risks. Present comprehensive risk assessments to the institution, act as an escalation point, oversee dispute resolution, and ensure compliance with DB’s organizational principles.
  • Participate in developing risk strategy and ensure effective implementation of risk management procedures. Ensure staff expertise and independence of the risk function.
  • Implement and oversee controls for non-financial risks, manage risks within the area, and ensure remediation of issues.
  • Within a decision-making framework : Manage risks from DB Iberia, ensure governance and control frameworks are effective, represent the risk function to stakeholders, and ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Supporting roles : Inform the Board of risk changes, advise senior management, support risk-related projects, and assist business divisions in delivering profitable, well-structured services.

Role responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Role description – Head of Function : Set strategic vision, oversee objectives and policies, ensure financial success, maintain key relationships, and ensure alignment with regulatory and risk frameworks.
  • Leadership responsibilities : Promote a risk-aware culture, develop risk reporting, challenge management strategies, and participate in senior management discussions.
  • Skills

  • Extensive risk and regulatory experience, including risk measurement, monitoring, and compliance.
  • Substantial banking risk management experience, familiarity with rules like Basel IV, and knowledge of risk classes, especially credit risk.
  • Leadership experience managing risk teams, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Relevant qualifications such as IRM or equivalent and a degree in economics, law, or related fields.
  • Strong soft skills including discretion, networking, problem-solving, and managing complex priorities.
